Ken Loach honoured by his trade union, BECTU

Ken Loach, a number of broadcasting and film union BECTU (Broadcasting Entertainment Cinematograph & Theatre Union) for over 40 years, has received the union's highest award: honorary membership.

Ken, who attended BECTU's annual conference in Bournemouth on 28April to receive his award, treated union delegates to a typically warm, gracious and generous address. He encouraged film workers to join BECTU and to get involved in the union's activities in support of the industry and those who work in it.

Ken also linked effective union organisation with the maintenance of standards and quality content in all areas of the media and entertainment.

"BECTU is delighted to pay tribute to Ken Loach following his success last year in winning the Palme D'Or for The Wind That Shakes The Barley. Ken is a filmmaker of great integrity, whose appreciateion of the teamwork that is involved in filmmaking should inspire everyone working in the field," said BECTU's Assistant General Secretary Martin Spence, who presented Ken with his award.

Ken, famous for his willingness to confront difficult issues, did not hold back from his criticism of the Labour government for the war in Irap.

To mark May Day tomorrow a special screening of Ken Loach's Kes will take place at the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square starting at 8:30.

肯之所以備受肯定，來自於他樂於對的尖銳的議題正面提出質疑，比如他對工黨政府在伊拉克戰爭議題上的立場提出嚴正批判，總是一針見血。
